We are a group of cloth doll makers who meet once a month in Farnborough, Hampshire. There is a range of abilities, but we are all enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills, as well as practice old ones. It's a very friendly and low key environment in which to learn and craft, and while we do that we drink tea, eat donuts and discuss a wide range of topics.

New year, new name...

Well, here we are in 2013 following some discussion amongst ourselves we have decided to rename our group. We were previously the Fanciful Figures Doll Club but following a discussion about exhibiting our creations we decided we couldn't ask someone if we could "display our Fanciful figures" as it might well give the wrong impression! So here we are in 2013 ready to make more Fanciful figures - but this time we'll be known as the Creative Cloth Doll Makers.

Our previous blog will remain up and available for anyone to read so if you're new to reading about us here's the link for the Fanciful Figures Doll Club so that you can look back and see what we do...

We meet on the last Saturday of the month in Farnborough and would welcome new members so if you're interested then please email us or write a comment leaving contact details and one of us will get back to you.

January's meeting

A lively and fun meeting was had by all during which we learnt how to use materials other than fabric to enable us to extend our repertoire - many thanks to Mavis for her help with this as she was instrumental in helping those of us in the group who were doing something outside our comfort zone.

The show and tell table had a variety of different things on it - photo's below....

This is a beautiful book made by Sally - shame I don't seem to be able to turn the photo round! It is the correct way up on the computer - I'll keep trying!

Anyway it's about Moths and Moonlight and is absolutely stunning so I have put in two pictures of it...

Shashi brought along this stunning caterpillar sitting on a mushroom - from Alice in Wonderland. The workmanship is amazing...

Mavis brought along this not quite finished bird doll. It still has a little work to be done on it but it really is stunning, so again two pictures to do it justice...

Derryn's show and tell for today was her Australian Teddy bear which she has made for a friend... Very cute!

The 2012 challenge was to make a doll from a poem. Most of us failed miserably when it came to completing this challenge so we have rolled it over to 2013 as well, but Heather showed the rest of us up by completing hers and bringing both the doll and the poem on which she is based along. She is again beautifully made and I think is a true reflection of the poem itself...

And Mavis also brought along, as well as the bird above, this embroidered saying.

I think it sums up how we as a group work - it doesn't have to be perfect as long as we enjoy making it and enjoy the finished project that's what we aim for.

Don't be fooled though we do all like to improve and progress which is what we do with the help and support of our fellow group members.

So if you're interested in coming along please do get in touch....
